Hi all,

Am I right in thinking that entering:

|*.info$

In preferences>User Info Settings for email addresses that must not be used will stop registrations from all .info domains?

Yes it will probably ban all .info address.

This is not a good idea as you may ban loads of valid registrations.

I don't think that this will affect my site as I don't get many genuine new users and those that I do get will be all .org, .org.uk, .co.uk or .com domains. I can only think of one potential users with a .info address and if he was going to sign up he would have done so by now.

My website is for a social group in which I'm well known and easily found; genuine new users with a .info email address can always email me to discuss things.

I've added it as a temporary measure due to having a couple of dodgy registrations this evening, with usernames of "zom" and "zoom" followed by a some numbers (21108 springs to mind) and domains which seem to a random mix of numbers and letters followed by .info

Update:

Entering

|*.info$

into "User Info Settings" doesn't ban all registrations from .info domains.

I've changed it to:

|.info$

to see what happens.

Also, our "friend" over at g-w-b.info has used two new domains overnight:

abiesalba.info
acser.info

that should work, and it should stop them at the register.php page.
with any .info they should see this above the field.

Can someone point me to the correct file to update so that I can put some extra "user friendly" information into this message.

The last thing that I want to do is turn away valid registrations, so if I could add some more text to inform the user what to do if they believe they have a valid registration request.

Something along the line of...
"Sorry, due to spamming we no longer automatically allow registration with the email address .....@..... Please either use another email address or send an email to me@my-email.com to request registration"
