Hi

I have noticed that most modules now work with the permission system which XOOPS has inbuilt but one of the default modules (Polls) doesn't yet use this feature. I believe that we need to update this module to make use of the new permission system. What do people think?

I think that something like SecurityImage or like should be available for submissions but I am not sure of the need for permissions.
I suppose if I think real hard and long on it I might be able to come up with a reason I would only want certain people to do a poll, just can't think of any right now.
For me it is important to for a Poll to not only give me the members point of view on something but anonymous users and visitors as well. In fact, many Polls are created as a result of a feedback/suggestion from anonymous users as well as members.

If I really needed to, I could create a seperate module with mypage or like it and direct members to it for more clarification on the subject then just have the Polls block set to be viewed on that page.

Just MHO.

Yes I just saw the news item.

Perfect timing.

Also I will give an example of when you would need polls to work with the permissions system. For example I have several users:

Agents
Premium Agents
Franchisees
Master Franchisees
and my internal staff of my company

As these people have very different needs I would poll people on very different issues.

For example I may ask my staff:

Do you like the new Kshop module but I wouldn't want to ask my agents this question as they don't have access to this area but I might want to ask my agents if they are happy with their commission structure.

The lack of permissions has prevented my use of polls for several years now. It's definitely needed.

This will become even more of a pressing issue if/when XOOPS become multi-site capable -- one install/database serving multiple communities. If you have sites on bikes, origami and cooking and are polling your users on a destination for a bike ride, you shouldn't need to bother the origami or cooking folks. Especially since their input isn't really relevant since they won't be attending those events.

I've considered cloning the polling module in the past but this is troublesome as some polls ARE intended for everyone....

As he is a busy person, I suspect the donation button on this feature request ticket may assist if used....

It's great to see people getting behind that idea of polls using XOOPS permission system.
