invalid activation key [Module troubleshooting]

An item that has stopped working is the user activation process. When I click on the registration email to activate the account I receive an "Activation Key not correct" error.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Does the same happen when you manually copy the adress and paste it into the browser?

(make sure there are no spaces due to line breaks or stuff)

Is it a public site? Can we have an url?
