Looks like a pretty open and shut case.
Insanity can be defined as "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Stupidity is not a crime. Therefore, you are free to go.

Actually I contacted a friend of mine that is using the software and he said that the GPL license was included with the software. He also saod that the credits were not removed from the files.

I can post contact him again see if I can get more info if you like;)

I am not sure on the law but I think as long as the GPL is included with the software its perfectly legal...

I could be wrong though.

Anybody can cut out the line:

<meta name="generator" content=" Xoops">
and transform it into:

Now if this isn't the orginal addresses module:

I'll eat my vingers and foot.
They didn't even take the effort to delete my lines standard in caps which I commented out from the start.
Since I released this module under GPL...... they violate the license on this xoopsmodule. See the above.
I am quit sure they violate a lot more other php scripts.

Thanks for taking action on this Herko.

shine, you're absolutely right. This is a clear violation of the GNU GPL. And it's definately not nice either. So it's illegal and rude.

I'll see if I can get some legal action on this!

Herko

What did they wrong? Telling others the made the software?

Again, iam no expert on this but I just read the GPL and it says that as long as the GPL license is included with the software then its perfectly legal..Even if someone make a fork of the XOOPS as long as they include the gpl its okay. I assume this would also apply to any modules that are released under the gpl. But again...I am just reading what i seen in the license.

It appears that anyone is also allowed to charge for service, support as well...

keepergpl and gamersea,

Have you seen our software offered for sale on another website?

If the website did not give you a domain and hosting with the script that you purchased, they are selling them illegally. You should contact the person or website that is offering the sites for sale and inform them that the sale was illegal and demand a full refund. Then contact us at: abuse@popscript.com with the person or URL. You should also contact their payment processor. The script websites do NOT come with resell rights and may not be distributed no matter what they tell you. This includes auctions such as ebay.

is a clear violation of GPL law, for 1 they are limiting what the user can do with it, and they are basically saying you are breaking the law if you give the script to any1 else.. in essence actually, they could claim anybody using a XOOPS site is breaking the law because they didn't supply it..

I see what you are saying but are we to assume that all of their software uses the same license? I don't know...But I do know that my friend told me that he is using the software and that it came with the gpl license intact (1999 version)

That would lead me to believe that not all their software uses same license..
