If I am in the wrong Forum, please re-direct me. We bought something called OpenSpace from PopScript.com (don't know if a good decision, but already done) which is made up of mostly XOOPS modules. I can't even tell what version -- the System Admin module says v1.01 (which I don't know how that cooresponds to current XOOPS versioning). Regardless, we wanted to upgrade the overall core system and modules, but don't have the slightest idea where to start!!! We are a "poor" all-volunteer group running a site for youth and young adults (with a slightly Christian bent, but open to all -- more focused on helping people through personal life experiences than anything else and building a community to provide an alternative to MySpace) -- http://www.SpiritTAG.com -- and was trying to find out where I could maybe get help figuring out how to upgrade our site -- and then also how to get some minor help modifying a module or two (e.g. we want the ability for user's to add Comments to another person's Profile -- a biggy for us).

We don't have a lot of money, but can probably scrap up something Sooooo, any suggestions on where we can get some reliable help with all this -- we are starting to get a lot of people on our site (only been up for 2 months) but we know that there are some really good updates to modules we could use -- if we only had a little help. So HELP PLEASE We believe we have a really great site for young people, but we are struggling as we are at a loss on how to proceed. Thanks ~PapaBear

I am not so sure you have XOOPS as your system. One way to check would be to take a look here and go to the links for a test drive listed in the comments. If you think you have the right resource in XOOPS then the next step is to set your web support group to the task of doing the research - reading of the how to's all referred to in the FAQ and you will be able to get moving on making your upgrades. XOOPS is really easy to use for those who take the time to do this - user friendly is what it is called. You won;t need to scrape together a single penny - just a small group of people prepared to put in some time to learn how the system works.

If XOOPS isn't the sytem you are currently on perhaps you can beg your service provider to assist you with making the change. You need to download and install the latest version and start from there. of course - use the references in FAQ and read the how to's before you start. The problem would be importing the information currently on the site to the new system and for that you woud need someone who knows something about importing data - so if you decide to go this way then put in a support request for that exact purpose. Some generous person here who has the skills may give freely of their time if your service provider won't. (I don't have the skills!)

Once you are established in XOOPS then you can ask us to help with the best modules and module variations.

Hope you find your answers! and some support within your group to make your changes for free. best of luck

If you want to upgrade the core, etc .... I'd develop with XOOPS localy, get it like you want it then I'd have your hosting company set up a sub domain as your development site. Run the two sites until your transition was smooth and you kept the data you want.

Thanks Jeff. I must have put my stupid brain in today -- I couldn't find anything on the page you sent me to, that told me how to check and see if I was running XOOPS or not (and what version). But I do know that when I go into the Administration section there are a bunch of modules and many of them have a XOOPS button (like http://www.spirittag.com/buttons/XoopsButton.gif ) and when I look at the "info" for some of the modules like NewbbPlus I get a pop-up that has the info provided below -- so I am guessing I have XOOPS unless there is some specific file to look at to see if I have it and what version I have.

NewbbPlus Info:
Version:
0.82

Description:
Newbb (E-Xoops 1.05 Rev3) with Group Auth, Attachments, Polls and more!

I'd agree you have XOOPS or exoops or a variation of one or both.

You should be able to find someone here who can help you port it all over to a standard XOOPS site. A good understanding of MySQL and XOOPS will be needed, which is where I bow out.

You will probably have to put up another post with something like 'Porting old version Help!" or some such catchy phrase.

Good luck!
Jeff
