What are "XOOPS Codes"?

This is going to sound like a really stupid question, and maybe it is, especially since I've been using XOOPS for a year and a half now, but searched this site, the FAQ, and can't find the answer.

What exactly are "XOOPS Codes"? Are they similar to the "BB Code", the [ xxx ] and [ /xxx ] codes?

Where can I find a list of all the XOOPS Codes?

What is the danger of enabling them?

There is no danger in enabling them. The XOOPS code or bbcode and the like are usually used when you don't give access to anyone posting html commands in messages.

In other words, the codes are sanitized html code. This way you are certain noone runs script through your pages.

Thanks Lance!

I'm curious why there's an option to permit XOOPS Codes, or not, if there is no danger to it? Does it conflict with something, maybe?

No there might just be websites were they don´t like colors, large fonts and other things in comments or forum postings.
So you still have the option to limit your user to plain text as a webmaster.

This would make an excellent faq topic. I have posted a question if anyone cares to write an answer. I do not know all the codes myself.

I could swear that there used by a comprehensive list here once upon a time...

Other CMSes (PHPNuke, Joomla!) use the same code, so perhaps an answer and a more complete list can be found elsewhere...googling...googling...googling...

Now all we have to do is rewrite it so as not to completely plagiarize their good work. And I notice, for example, that they use "link" rather than "URL"

Of course, THIS forum doesn't let us go plugging PHP into our posts, I don't think...

To complete the list:
[url][/url] (mostly used for external links)
[siteurl][/siteurl] (mostly used for internal links. Unfortunately the standard a href here is still the same as [url], _blank, which shouldn't be.)

Making a list of "XOOPS Codes" for smartfaqs?

Could someone make this into a full list and add it to smartFAQ's.

This is what many members ask me for.

With many community boards there is a full guide for end users included.

I have already added the user guide from smartfaqs and my members were really happy.

The more XOOPS can have a full user guide module, which can be added the better.

Is there anyway we can all work on it together, so it becomes a full comprehensive guide of every question the end users ask.

Like having a MySQL for it that, like on sourcefore that can be added to when changes have been added?

Not dropping the table, yet simply adding inserts, that could be added to the already existing user guide?

Could we?

Yes, definitely. After I posted, I started testing the different tags other boards used to see which ones work and which ones don't.

I'll compile the list, write the FAQ answer, and submit it to this forum later today or tomorrow. Please review my effort and offer comments and criticism.
