Xoops notifications to SMTP mail account?

Is there a possibility to forward XOOPS Mail notifications (for example when there is a reply to a item in the forums, added pictures etc) to a SMTP account? Now they go to the XOOPS inbox and I would like to have that changed. Thanks for your help!!

certainly - if change the "Notification Method" setting in your user profile, all notification messages go to the email address specified in your profile.

Ok, that was very easy

Is there a way to set the option as default? Currently the default is "private message" and I would like to have that changed to the SMTP option. Do I need to change a certain php file? Thanks for your help!
