Hi, after reading good stuff about XOOPS, I thought I'd give it a try. My provider provides fantastico and XOOPS is already in it (its simply fantasic )

Installation went fine, no errors, and I can access the main site and set the account info for the admin user. However, I cannot enter the administration menu.

When entering the administration menu it shows a message:
"This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed."

After clicking "Submit" it says "logging you in".
At the same time a text appears in the top left corner saying "failed open file". After that it goes back to the page saying this is your first time...

Some more info:
---
Do you have PHP? 4.3.4
Do you have SQL? mySQL 4.0.18-standard
Apache/ISS/Other? Apache 1.3.29 (unix)
Xoops? 2.0.5.2
Xoops URL?http://quak.<domain>/ (quak is a working subdomain)
Xoops Path? <mypath>/www/quak/
Can you see install.php? no (after installation)
Can you see index.php? yes (the site does show)
Can you login? yes
---

Any idea what is going on or how I can get the info to find out?
Thanks for any help,

Hey zaai1,

I just installed from Fantastico and had the same problem. I checked the cache directory in XOOPS and it wasn't writable. CHMOD'ed that correctly and it works!

It's a good idea for people who use Fantistico to install xoops, to not only make sure that the uploads, cache and templates_c directories are chmoded to 777, but also compare the XOOPS files on your server with the actual files sizes of an original copy of XOOPS to make sure that your files all uploaded correctly. Sometimes Fantastico does not upload all your files completely.

Thanks for the tips
I ended up uploading it manually with ftp and run the installer. That worked flawless so I was happy anyway
