I find the default forum module too confusing and unintuitive for my site. I was wandering if there are other forum modules available ?

I went with the phpBB2 port for Xoops. Available here.

I think the IPB module or PHPBB modules are pretty good, but don't forget running them on your site means doing a lot of hacks, thus making it harder to upgrade your XOOPS version. If you're not in a rush, wait for the next version of newbb. It is being upgraded to a much better forum. Take a look in this topic: Predator in update newbb.
