Hi,

I installed XOOPS yesterday, so I am brand new at this. I have a weird problem that I am not sure how it happened or what the ramifications might be. I noticed that I have 6 instead of 3 default groups. (Webmasters, Registered Users, and Anonymous Users listed twice) The permissions for each matching group are very close but not exactly the same. One set can can be modified and the the other set can be modified and deleted.
What I also thought might be odd is that the group with the higher ID's (4,5,6) are the ones that can't be deleted.

Is there a listing of what the default settings should be? What kind of problems may this cause if I delete one set. Does XOOPS expect the default groups at a certain ID?

The docs for groups do not go into detail.
I am pretty early in the setup of this site, so starting over would not be a tragedy.

thanks,
Lanette

Hello lanette,

Welcome to Xoops, sorry you have got off to a bad start. Unusual one this.

When you go to groups which webmasters group or groups are you a member of?

You are the Superuser, so you of course don't want to be deleted. The problem is, which one do you move yourself out of to ensure you don't lose your admin??

You should of course only be in group one, make sure you are a member, it will tell you at the bottom of the page. I would first go to group "one", (the one that can't be deleted, and make sure a checkmark is in each of the "System Admin Rights" at the top of the Webmasters group page and do an "update" making sure you have permissions for everything else.

If we are lucky, this might clear the other groups away, this solved a duplication problem I had in the past.

If this does not work, I would try to move yourself out of 4, and any other groups you are listed in in the 4,5 and 6 region.

Or, after this you could try re-naming the other groups (if it allows you to)

If this does not work, there is edits you can do in the database, but that is more complicated.

If you have no success I would delete your database and re-install.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to follow your suggestions but there were some more oddities. I was a member of both Webmaster groups and neither group had any System admin rights. (that didn't make any sense). Since the only thing I had done was play with some templates, I decided to do a clean install. I didn't want problems later on.

I have another unrelated question. Once the site I am working on is ready, I will need to move it. The URL will change but it will be supported by exactly the same database.
What will I need to change?

Thanks again,
Lanette

I did a fresh install as well after learning from mistakes. But you probably could have fixed it if you really needed to. Something to do as good measure anyway is to hit each group, verify settings, and do Update even if it looks right.

Change it in the mainfile.php file.
