PHP5 is ot yet supported. I guess you've found out why... PHP5 is still in beta stages, get PHP4.x in stead...

Weird, don't see anything about returning referenced values in the changelog for PHP5...

Have never really got the hang of these references, either. I mean, one thing is getting an object reference, but I don't see why this code needs a return by reference:


function &htmlSpecialChars($text)

    {

        return preg_replace("/&amp;/i", '&', htmlspecialchars($text, ENT_QUOTES));

    }

I use WinXP Home - Apache 1.3.2.9 - PHP 4.3.4 - MySql 4.0.17 on my local server and all work great for me. I was able to install a working XOOPS on this.

I'm pretty confident as Herko is that the problem is in the PHP version
