I am trying to get the posted news to appear on the top page, in full, not just as I have now, which is just a link.
I dont know about advertising rules here, so if you want the link, ask for it.

Oh please do give a link so much easier to see, what the problem might be

Have you set news as module for start page in System Admin -> Preferences -> General Settings?

Oh, thanks, that all that needed doing.
