Hi to all,

This is my first post to the XOOPS comunity, so forgive me
if this post is not on this forum.

I installed the Headlines module in the xoops-2.0.5 version and i does not work.

I configured several RSS feeds and i followed the instructions
made by gruessle in the post
https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=13693&forum=20#forumpost55071

in order to configure the GuyScope news.

After configure this module i went to the Headlines page
and nothing appeared. The Headlines page and all the XOOPS site is a blank page. No html code is generated when i click
the Headlines section.

Any Help ?

First, manually check the RSS links, to check for typos (although more than one feed is unlikely)

Second, sounds like your host may have disabled opening remote files. Enquire about this.

Hello...

This module is really a mystery.

I test many RSS/RDF from this list(portuguese brazilian websites)
RSSficado

for example:
http://brlinux.linuxsecurity.com.br/noticias/index.rdf

None is show in Xoops.
But if the RSS is from a other XOOPS website is 100% working

Please test this RSS (http://brlinux.linuxsecurity.com.br/noticias/index.rdf ) in this validators
http://feedvalidator.org/
http://aggregator.userland.com/validator

The RSS is ok...but dont show in xoops.

My XOOPS website:Ideiafacil.com

Look only XoopsBR is showing in this module.

Any help is welcome

PS: sorry my poor english

Divulga

Nao sei se o headlines funciona com RDF, podes tentar com um RSS 0.91 e um RSS 0.92 em Brasileiro, e escreve aqui se funciona ou nao.

I have a problem with the BBC Technology newsfeed at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/syndication/feeds/news/ukfs_news/technology/rss091.xml
Nothing is displayed at all.
I put a copy of the failing file on a local server and discovered it is a problem with the pound sterling character "£" in the text of the title and description of one item.

When I replace the pound sterling character in the feed with "£" (characters "& # 163;" with no spaces) then the newsfeed does display but the pound sign is not rendered correctly. If I also change the RSS Encoding definition of the feed to ISO-8859-1 then it displays OK.
(but ISO-8859-1 is in the feed so why does it have to be specified again?)

RSS/XML encoding is a deep and murky pond which you want to stay well away from!!!

I don't understand the fucker, and I have been trying to write an rss module for XOOPS for months.

ANYWAY, if the headlines module read the dtd for the feed (which I assume it does not), it would find the pound sign there as an entity

<!ENTITY pound "£"> <!-- pound sterling sign -->

What do you mean by this? Where are you respecifiying it?

Olá. surpresa ver o seu portugues.
mas tentei com este RSS 0.92 que eu validei por 3 validators diferentes e não funcionou(mesmo mudando o iso 8859-1 para utf-8):
http://www.interney.net/rss.php (a valid rss 0.92)

no meu site:
http://www.ideiafacil.com/modules/xoopsheadline/index.php?id=9

Other mystery:
the www.ideiafacil.com/backend.php não passa pelo validator:
My XOOPS site is not a valid RSS ?

I supose this validator is a RSS 2.0 validator

Divulga,

We know that backend.php does not validate, and I am working on a much better fix. Maybe I will patch backend in the meantime though. [Thoughts on this mod/core teams?]

Feed validator should validate almost EVERYTHING, so that is not the case.
