Hi everyone - I'm brand new to XOOPS so be gentle.

I have searched the forums and this seems to be the only thread hitting on the way I'm going to need to use XOOPS for my site. Correct me if I'm wrong. I have already installed it in the root http docs folder of a new domain, and I intend to create many subdomains which, on my server, generates what I guess is an alias and a folder in my http docs area. So my main site is something likehttp://state.com and my sub-sites will behttp://city.state.com orhttp://state.com/city - I want to be able to tell folks to login to their city area and get pertinent info about their area, but still have access to the database that has info for the entire state. Is this where you're going with this thread? If not please help me get to the right place. Thanks for what you are doing, XOOPS is great!

I have 3 different sites. What I need is only user table(username and password is enough for me) will be shared. So when user creates account in any of the site, he/she can login with that username and password into any of the sites. Once he is logged in a site, if he opens another site, he will be shown logged in to the last site also.
So is the hack perfect for me? And is the hack stable?

@Forgiven: The short answer is yes, this multisite hack can probably do what you'd like. Bear in mind though that this thread was started to explore a hack that adds functionality that is not in the base XOOPS install. The title asks us to test it out if it sounds like something we might find useful.

I think the impetus behind it originally was to allow a single userbase to access several dissimiliar sites. An example would be a gaming network. The common thread for the userbase is they all play games. Several sites could be created for different games -- HL2, Doom, WoW, Ravenshield. They each have a different theme and can have different module placements. You choose what databases and modules should be shared across them. Perhaps you want a common userbase and a common set of forums. Perhaps you also want downloads for all games to be accessible from all sites. Maybe each site needs a different news module and links modules. Whatever.

The long answer is you won't really know unless you install it and see if it meets your needs. Set up a site with subsites. Does it work as you envisioned? Why or why not? Were the instructions clear enough? What would help to make it work better for you? What problems did you run into? How did you work around them?

Re: Multi-sites - help me test it properly?

When I tried to install this hack on my 9.0.1.0 I would loose an ability to install modules and get many php warnings and 1 smarty error:
Error [Xoops]: Smarty errorthe$compile_dir 'XOOPS_COMPILE_PATH' does not exist, or is not a directoryin file class/smarty/Smarty.class.php line 1084

When I go to Modules and try to install any module including "Site" module I do get only message saying to "Press the button below to install this module" but the button is not there. It used to have to Install and Cancel. How do I enable them?

In a mean time I went back to my backups.

this hack is ONLY for XOOPS 2.0.9.2 and will NOT work with 2.0.10

We know Mith is busy with next version.
I(like many others) WISH he had time to make it work for XOOPS 2.0.10 which is more popular than previous version(I guess).

If I have 2 or more sites and a user registers on one site. How can I enter him/her in to a group depending on, which site he registered from?

I found this but don't know how to make it work.

<? //Get member handler
$member_handler =& xoops_gethandler('member');

//Add user to group
$member_handler->addUserToGroup($groupid, $uid); ?>
