My apologies to anyone who finds the
modules I have been making to be of
"low quality". I merely wanted contribute
something to XOOPS that users might at
least find entertaining and in no way
intended to detract from XOOPS.

I am not a PHP coder and am just now
getting my feet wet learning how to
make simple modules.

The 'modules' from Shadow are flash scripts that don't add any functionality to a website. I even don't think they deserve to be called 'module'. Just cheap sh#t.

Free Games
Fun Flash Games
Frozen Bubbles
xComics

Are these modules "Just cheap sh#t"
as well? They add no more "functionality"
than the modules I have made and they
have been in the module repository
far longer.

Shadow!

The point is that there are close to 7000 languages in the world... how many versions do you plan to add for "The Philosophy of Liberty" movie?

Porting flashgames... you can spend a few lifetimes...

LOL

Just the 14 languages that it had been
translated to.
A note of interest: Google "Esperanto"
If you didn't already know what it is
you're in for a surprise. ( I was anyway!)

If I may...

http://philosophyofliberty.blogspot.com/

This is the site where the files came
from. I already contacted the owner
of the blog and asked them for their
permission to mirror the files on my
site and they agreed quite readily.
The only problem so far is uploading
all of them (just 84 files!!), most of
the DiVX versions are absolutely huge!

I started porting the flash versions
to XOOPS since so many people worldwide
use it.

As for the games... I wasn't
planning to submit too many more
anyway. I think the full page of them
I have submitted should offer enough
variety for any webmaster. lol

In all seriousness though, it was never
my intention to "spam" or detract from
xoops.org. You have to admit, the
games sub category was kind of skimpy
and not everyone that chooses XOOPS as
their CMS would know how or even want
to fool with trying to port anything.

Shadow, don't make excuses for what you do. Most of them have never submitted anything and me is one of them. The other thing you could do is to submit the only (English) version of what you have and upload the rest to you server and give its URL in your original submission.

deka87, Each module I have submitted
does include a link to my module
development "sub site" and I also
include a link with each module to a
functioning preview of the modules.

I hate downloading a module without
having a chance to see it in action
first and thought it would save people
time if they had a chance to examine
the module before deciding if they
wanted to downloading it or not.

I'd say again, don't make excuses for what you do. You're doing good.We are not judges to decide which module is serious and which one is not. I've noticed that maybe half of the websites based on XOOPS are about xoops.. maybe your modules would be even more useful for some philosophy related websites than some of the hardcoded modules like zentrack. IMHO anyways...

Tagging your philosopher module as low quality was not the best way to express. It says nothing about your other modules.
And it is not a question of the quality or the 'must have' calibre of that module or Flash modules in general.

What is at stake in my opinion is the quality of the News section of XOOPS.org and the question if the stream of some endless repeating articles is a true asset for it. (The same applies for the module and theme section!)

Publicising an article in the News section is not only information to the XOOPS world, but also a kind of promotion for the developer (and his website and bussiness). And when the added news value becomes marginal, the line between News and SPAM becomes thin.

As I remarked in a post before, there is very little news value in again a new language and it could be sufficient to add simply a comment to the News article when a new language emerges.
XOOPS modules are conceived to work with multiple languages. By means of the language directory, which supplies the translations, one and the same module can fit in universally. (One could say, that your philosopher module by lacking this standard feature, is indeed of a lesser quality.)

Other border line cases are module version announcements. Some developers are very active and repair bugs and/or implement new features (one by one) and make releases on a daily basis. Which of course is very excellent! But we can then ask ourselves the question, if such a minor release of a subversion is newsworthy enough to attract the worlds attention. Or can a comment to the original major release be sufficient?

And the same goes for the themes. Is every colour scheme of the same theme (now also in applebluedeepseagreen) worth of a separate article? For me, an added comment to the theme's release article, that a new colour scheme is available, will do.

I love to hear news about XOOPS and his developers, and the more, the better! But at the same time it should have some quality of interest and has also to be true News and not a copy paste of an earlier post.

The News section has to be open to all kinds of News about all kinds of XOOPS related things, if they are of importance for a large or small audience, or if they are light or heavy feature loaded or ...

But use it wisely!

For other uses, you have still the playground of your own website!

PS: The views expressed in my posts are my own!
Some are deliberatly exagerated for showing the dangers of the unwanted direction that it could lead into.

shadow..xoops users appreciate what are you doing....

but i agree with Ghia..if there is any new language version available just leave comment in the english version...to tell there is other version language available..

not need to post it one by one...

You're plea is very well expressing the reason I started this topic ghia. Also I do think it is not fair to blame happy developers in all sort of kinds for wanting to advertise their children. It's lack of moderation causing this 'non-news' flood.

Absolutely agree.. Shadow did nothing wrong as no one told him anything until now

Shadow, I'm glad you're stopping at 14 languages and not going for the full 7000... it would drive you mental...
