I recently published my chess module in the downloads section.

The current version is 1.0.2.

I don't have a public demo available at this time, but here's a screenshot:

I'd appreciate some feedback on how well it works, whether it has bugs, etc. Feedback by PM or email is ok, but it's probably better if each issue is posted as a separate thread in the appropriate forum here.

Any one else have a demo open to all yet? (without registration).

I don't wish to install it yet (Too lazy, sorry), but would be good to see.

One person who installed the module provided a URL and a test-login in the module's download thread.

Since there have been several requests for a demo, I guess I should set one up myself. I'll try to do that soon.

I found a minor bug that was messing up the Move List. It's fixed in version 1.0.2, which is now available. The file INSTALL.txt contains upgrade instructions, including how to "repair" existing games, if you don't want to delete them.

----
Edit

I corrected INSTALL.txt. I had neglected to mention a couple of updated files. The current version is 1.0.3.

I am really happy to see OCC ported to Xoops! I was also considering doing this but never had time for it.

Since I am not a chess player (the site I maintain is also used by a chess club) I cannot comment on chess engine. I will forward you any error reports I get.

From an admin point of view it seems to be OK. One minor thing that I observed is the fact the version 1.03 still reports as 1.02 (just update the xoops_version file).

The FEN notation seems to be quite brutal. Listing the white and black positions could be easier (two lists like: Kd5,Be3,g6). An interactive board would be even better.

You should post a news item on this site for the Chess module, I almost missed it.

Marius

mariuss:

Thanks, I would appreciate any error reports.

I don't know how I missed changing the version number. But I've corrected that, and also a minor typo in a template. The current version is now 1.0.4.

I guess you're referring to entering a board setup position using FEN when creating a game?

I chose FEN because it's a well-documented, standard format, and other chess applications such as ChessMaster 9000 provide FEN import/export.

Also, I wasn't sure whether anyone would really make use of the board setup position feature. I added it partly so that I could more easily test checkmate/stalemate handling.

But I've added your suggestion to my TODO list.

Yes, I should probably post a news item.

Good idea
You should make it compatible with the multi-language hack.
