Can't log in as admin after fresh install of xoops 2.0.7

Just successfully finished the install ( my first ever), with a little help from my xoops.org friends skalpa and Mithrandir. I try to log in as admin and it takes me briefly through the "thank you for logging in" page (users.php) and then on to the index.php page. However there is no administration menu button, only a home button.
Have I missed a step? How do I enable the admin module? I tried going directly to mysite.com/html/admin.php, but it yells back, "You don't have the right to access this area."

Help?

BTW I am using a RaQ550 Cobalt server.

Firewall installed?

If not what is your PHP version? (PHP 4.1.0 and higher (4.3.1 or higher for IIS)is required)

Well I am not running a firewall. Altough some of our readers of our current page (different server) cannot post to the forum and now I know why. !! Thanks for the link!!

I checked that php version. And silly me! Since this a BRAND new, off-the-shelf server I ASSUMED (you know what they say about that) it would have a recent version of php. It runs php version 4.0.6. There lies my problem.

So my only solution is to upgrade the php? Is that right?

I got two for one with this post.

No I did not turn on persistent connection. Should I?

I don't have the proper PHP version installed on this server.
It turns out that the admin GUI for the Cobalt server can only run on the older version of PHP. However I may be able to install the newer version just for the websites running.

In your case, persistent connection will not help, you need to upgrade your server PHP.

I have windows running omni httpd php 4.3.7 MySQL 3.23.49 register globals on I am having the same problem. has anyone figgured this out yet. I really want to play with this thing.
