Hi there!

I have had trouble with people signing up to my site, it seems to work for some, and not for others. If you want to test it and see if it works, you can go to http://www.popguntheband.com and see if it registers.

For example, if I try to create a test account on the site from my computer here, it doesnt work, but two friends who accessed the site from different computers were able to add their user account no problems. When I try to add a user, the page goes back to http://www.popguntheband.com/register.php and the account is not created.

Could this be a browser issue or is it a site config issue? I keep on thinking maybe a file permission is wrong somewhere. If you need any extra info, I can give it to you...

I plan to make the site available to the general public (ie we will start plugging it) soon and I want them to be able to sign up (of course!)

Software Firewall?

Hi there!

I forgot that someone mentioned software firewall before.

I turned off the firewall built into XP and successfully created an account via the register now! interface.

The other user accounts I have been able to make with my computer have been created via the Admin interface, which has no problems creating accounts, so what I will do is get people who have trouble to email me thier details and I'll create 'em manually.

If your users use software firewalls, which block HTTP Referrers, they will not only have difficulties creating accounts but will also get into problems in any other way, which involves changing, adding or deleting data in the database.

So having you create their accounts is really just postponing the solution. Get them to list your site as trusted site - or whatever they need to do in their firewall - or this problem will haunt you throughout the site.

Hmmm... yes that is all true.

I think I will just make a FAQ that is there if anyone has any problems, telling users how to do exactly what you described, and how to turn off the XP firewall (or others like Zonealarm but not sure if that will display the same problem)

Creating user accounts manually is also a pain in the ass!
