Hi there!

I have so far managed to get XOOPs working pretty nice on my website (thanks chainsaw!) and I have a couple of questions regarding new users to the site. I have searched the forums to no avail - if these questions are already answered somewhere else please point the n00b to the place needed to go for such informations!

OK -

1. Users cannot register new accounts at the moment. If you go to the registration page and sign up, it basically returns back to the same page and no account is made. Is this a file permission error of some sort?

2. I don't want the users who use the site to have to supply so much information (like ICQ numbers.. etc) Can I turn these off or delete some php code somewhere? I want to keep sign-ups simple as possible.

check admin/preferences user info settings..

check to see if allow new registrations is enabled..

2nd, u may have it set so that admin has to approve new registrations, it is best to change this to require activation by user or activate automatically..

basically if it's set to user activation, when a user applies and submits their details, an email will be sent to them with a validation key, they then have to click this link in the received email b4 they can use the site..

automatic activation registers them immediately, but using this method can cause some abuse from people applying with bots and spamming..

the default is activate by user, so if thats not working, it is likely you have not setup your mail settings correctly.. check that the mail settings are correct, try sending an email to yourself via the site, if u receive the email then it is working.. if not, then u know the mail setup is configured wrong..


your 2nd question, no u can't turn off the info what is required, altho required is a vague term, as users can leave those fields blank if they want.. only the email, username and password are actually required..

I checked out my file permissions.. then realised that it was my browser, as I was able to add users on a different computer! Bad cookies! So I will delete them and give it a try.

As for the 'required' info - I will leave it for now. It would be good to have this part of XOOPS configurable, so you could say, check off the info the user can add.

Sounds like it COULD be a firewall (software or otherwise) with Browser Privacy enabled.

I have got XP with internet firewall enabled... I'll disable it and see how I go... (can't now cos I am at work).

I will post results later.
