I've just finished building my first site as well. Congratulations!
I especially like the take the tour, posting tutorial, and FAQ selection. With your permission, I'd like to borrow some of that content.
The intro, while cute, does seem a bit slow. It took about 15 seconds and then began to cycle. It also was not clear to me that I could only click on the text link to proceed.
As for the forums, I would suggest that fewer forums would help encourage posting initiatlly. Many newer users visit 1 or 2 forums on occasion. So a few very active forums is preferable to 10+ seldom used ones. If you have the traffic, it is always easy to start new branches. And how about genealogy? That's always good for a few in the family.
