Sorry for the doltish newbie question, but after searching I am unable to find anywhere here or in the XOOPS admin menus how to change the "master forum name" (perhaps I have the terminology wrong -- it's what's labelled 'Welcome to XOOPS Official Site Forum' here). I called mine the 'Demo Forum' and am now stuck with 'Welcome to Demo Forum' -- and am unable to change it. I'm embarassed; I'm sure it's something staring me right in the face.

Thanks, noelino.

(directed at anyone reading...)
One thing that would be nice, though, would be to be able to set a custom title to the forum section. For example, I'd like to have my forum labelled (using my company name as an example) "The Anacys Forum." If I set my site name string to "Anacys," it just comes out "Anacys Forum." If I change the site name to "The Anacys," the forum label comes out alright, but I don't necessarily want the "the" slapped on everything else. Or maybe I'd want to name my forum something dopey like "Ye Olde Forum." Corny example, but you get the point.

You can change the name of your forum.

Go to modules/newbb/language/(yourlanguage)/main.php

Look for define("_MD_WELCOME","Welcome to %s Forum."); and change this to "Welcome to Your Business Name Forum" or anything else you want it to say.

Yeah, thanks... I figured I could do it in the code somewhere, but I was concerned it would get overwritten if there were an new version at some point that included an update of that particular script.

Even if it got overwritten, you can just save this info here and change it again. It's not hard to write in your new welcome title for your forum.

Granted -- for a single site it's trivial. But I'm considering XOOPS as a tool for maintaining (potentially) many sites.

Don't get me wrong -- I love what I'm seeing so far (I've spent the better part of the past week tinkering with PostNuke, and before that others, and XOOPS is the most intuitive by a good margin). A good OS CMS like XOOPS can be an awesomely empowering tool for organizations on a tight budget, and everything that can be pulled away from code tweaks is a plus.

Sorry -- I'm starting to make a mountain out of a molehill here. Didn't mean to get off on a rant. Time for me to shut up.

That's okay! I understand! Maybe you should post under the topic that asks for ideas for features on the newbb module for the next version of xoops. You can ask for the feature of being able to create your own forum welcome title.

Perhaps once I've been here long enough to have a glimmering what I'm talking about I will. It's be nice to be able to set a lot of the strings in that file you referenced in the UI -- but I'll wait to comment until I've spent more time with xoops.
