Is there a module which you can use to announce events or activities.
The next activity in a bloc on the top page...
Activities have an expire date, a subject or title, a body text, an announce date.
There could be a feature which let users subscribe for the event, pay facilities (low priority), ...
A possibility to comment the event...

Tiny Event can do most of this but it would need to be hacked to get comment posting on it. Plus you could create a subscription page for the events and just put the links to them in the tiny event's index.php page where the "back" link is.
