Problem with new user registration

People clicking on the "Register" link get an error saying they don't have permission to access this area

XOOPS Version XOOPS 2.4.5
PHP Version 5.2.14
mySQL Version 5.0.77-log
Server API apache2handler
OS Linux

any fix? anyone know what the problem might be?

Things don't happen out of the blue, so you need to check what has changed, or what you've changed, so now suddenly the user cannot access the area.

You might also repair the database, in case something got corrupted, and empty the sessions table.

while trying to fix this i accidentally banned myself in protector.

how do i delete my ip from the mysql?

I can read it using phpmyadmin, but i can't edit it

there is a file called badipXXX in your directory:

xoops_lib/modules/protector/configs

You'll need to modify it.

If you cannot modify it, just delete it, but you'll lose all the other bad IP that you've added to Protector, and they will have access again to your Website.

Thanks, that fixed my banned problem but I still have the new user registration problem

I've reversed the settings but new users still can't register

not sure how to repair the database or clear session tables in 2.4.5

Check to make sure your anonymous user permissions allow them to access registration. A user that is currently not registered would be considered to be anonymous and thus the permissions related to the anonymous group would apply. I suspect you probably recently went through and "updated" your anonymous user permissions at some point recently and accidentally modified this permission.
