There is something that is not really clear to me even after having read a lot of posts.
What should I do to upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4? I do not understand. If I copy all files in htdoc from 2.4 to my server I will erase the existing ones (modules, themes, etc).
What should I do? It might be a silly question but if there is a good soul that can clearly explain that to me I will deeply appreciate it.
Thank you.

Yup, that's true.

I didn't upgrade 2.3.3 to 2.4 (yet), but last time that was the method.

So, first backup your site, then copy file over the old ones, and go to /upgrade.

Follow the procedure as outlined in "Upgrading from XOOPS 2.0.* above 2.0.14 and 2.2.* (using the full package)".

The instructions said "Choose the appropiatte upgrade package", but there arent any upgrade packages (mean from 2.3.3 to 2.4) only a full package?? Should i overwrite all the files as if it would be a scracth install?

Copying 5,000+ files when only a fraction are actually needed is a pain. It works, but again -it is a pain.

Quote:

Upgrading from XOOPS 2.3.x (easy way)

1. Get the right update package from the sourceforge file repository

That text needs to be edited.

The update scripts for all past core versions are included in the upgrade folder found in the main archive.

upgrade 2.3.3 to 2.4

I wouldn't call 3124 files a fraction as only 1822 stayed unchanged.

Thank you for the suggestion regarding the upgrade following the
Upgrading from XOOPS 2.0.* above 2.0.14 and 2.2.* (using the full package)

2 more things if I can ask:

1. In the procedure it says "2. Delete htdocs/mainfile.php, htdocs/install/, htdocs/cache/, htdocs/extras/, htdocs/template_c/, htdocs/themes/ and htdocs/uploads/ from the "htdocs" folder on your LOCAL machine" and so far it sounds logic to me but what about the "modules" folder, if I copy the 2.4 one onto the 2.3 it will erase all modules I have added after previous intallation and will find myself with System, Protector, Users and PM. Right? Do I have to replace only the ones that came with 2.4 package?

2. Regarding Xoops_Lib and Xoops_Data. I have them out of the root with 2 different names. Do I have to replace the old files with those in 2.4 full package?

Maybe I am the only one having trouble to understand it.
Thank you very much.

No, since you're copying, it will only overwrite the System, Protector, Users and PM. All other modules will stay untouched, but you might look for newer versions (e.g. if you use the Instant-Zero modules)

Yes
