The nice thing about Open Type fonts (*.EOT) is you can embedded them into your themes with CSS. This means your theme can use that font your client wanted to be used.

First you have to have the EOT font and CSS for it, there is this free tool that microsoft developed after being take to court for being a monopoly on fontage. Called the WEFT Tool.

This will convert your True Type (*.TTF) font to an EOT format for embedding in a website and displaying the font. The CSS is compatible with version 2.0 and 3.0 of CSS, it didn't work in 2.1 of CSS.

This tool is free and available for those that want it just download it.

Open Types Fonts will be handled the same way as a TrueType font. What is the extension on the Type1 fonts?

Some experimentation is needed as not every font will convert properly to EOT.

IMHO this will become a hotter topic now, as Firefox 3.5 (at last) joins Safari 3.0, Opera 10.0 and Google Chrome 3.0 in supporting the embedding of true-type fonts using the @font-face declaration.

With some CSS trickery you should be able to create a cross-browser embedded font style using EOT for IE and TTF for the others.
