You'll need to elaborate a bit.

why not a public branch - where Users could suggest their hacks easily & often. A few volunteers would test the submitted code and apply it to the source and provide the link to download the last "Xoops Made by You".
As example, the proces could be not so different from some french projects developement that people use to manage news and sections which became modules of very good quality and very appreciated by almost all users.
I like people more than machines or money. But that's me!
Lets do something good and great: Lets do open source!

To create /install one XOOPS site with one database, but yet have as many clone sites as you like where the modules have unique content, but are still part of the main site's database .. so members will only need to register one account to have access to every clone site you create on the main installation.

Take a look at this website for a branching example:
http://www.communitymusician.com

Their website will give you a better idea of what I am talking about.
Use the dropdown menu on the left side of their website to see branching examples.

Search "sub site" here and a thread will come up, someone wrtoe a module for it and hosts the download themselves...
Moo.

Has this come any farther in 2 years? I remember seeing a few different posts where some people were experimenting with it in the XOOPS core.

I am curious if anyone ever figured out a way to incorperate branching in an XOOPS site?

This would be a great feature for the new release if anybody would be willing to work on it.

Search "multi-site hack"
I believe the hack is reasonably ready for production sites.

There's a SQL statement based hack here which enables multi-site access from the same login. The same thread features Nekro's multi-site module Multix which appears to also offer some table sharing.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.
