I've been working on this site off and on in my free time and think I'd like to get it launched in a fortnight or so.

So........., I'm wondering if someone could take a look under the hood, kick the tires, etc., etc.

There are some test articles already posted, and I'm still categorizing the message board, making some changes on the header logo, finishing the World Facts section and a few other things, but I'm at a point where I can't see any mistakes or omissions I may have made.

The big questions are:

Does the site render well on a large screen?

The Travel Directory seems kind of sluggish to me. Do visitors experience the same problem?

Does the Travel Video section work for visitors?

Do the Travel Tools work?

Does the Travel Shop look all right?

Any and all bits of constructive criticism are welcome.

Also, if anyone runs a travel-related site, feel free to add it to the Links/Partners section.

Super Travel Tips.com

Thanks,

gestroud

Hi Gestroud,

That looks like a very good start. You did a great job on the integration with Amazon and the open directory. The video section is also very nice.

The directory is a bit slow, I am not sure how to improve that. Do you pull that data straight from the directory site or do you collect the data once and store it in your own database?

May I suggest to make the site a little less full? It looks a bit crowded to me. Also perhaps the design could use some more improvements, to make it look more attractive.

Happy to finally see a travel site made with XOOPS!!

Thanks for the input, wtravel. Much appreciated.

The site is using this module for the directory and draws data directly from it. It is possible to cache it, but I wouldn't recommend doing it. I had one site that wound up having over 60,000 cache files added.

I'll see what I can do to make things look less busy on the homepage; still tinkering around with that. I want to get some more content in, then sit back and see what else needs fixin'.

Thanks again,

gestroud
