a search of the forum would have given you the answer.

templates_c & cache folders need to be writable.

I've already done that, they are both 777 and all content inside them, I still get "Unable to write to main menu." when I update or install a module...

This FAQ is all about chmod - please check it out. If it doesn;t help you will need to supply information about what your were attemtping to do when you got the error message.

Ok, I've gone through and made sure all those files have the correct CHMOD. It's still doing it. I noticed it for the first time yesterday, but I don't recall a specific event that caused it, I'm not sure. I've tried removing any recent modules I've added incase there's a clash, but it doesn't make any difference.

It doesn't seem to effect the actual main menu, it's just an error that appears when I either update a module, or install a new module, on the page that lists all the updated files.

If it doesn't seem to effect the mainmenu, can I just leave it alone as a quirk? Or does it have other effects I just haven't noticed yet?

I get this error when I try to update the forum module(CBB 3.07):

Unknown column 'Videos' in 'where clause'
Got error 134 from table handler

I just noticed this at the top of the list of updated files when I update a module:

failed open fileModule data updated.

It looks like it can't update any module information, only template files.

its weird
I recommend deleting adminmenu.php file in the "cache" folder

if it dosent solve the problem try to turn on PHP Debug in XOOPS admin -> system admin -> preferences -> General settings

hmmm...weird...I don't have an adminmenu.php file in cache...

could that be the problem?

*edit - found it. I deleted it. At least all the module images show up on the side now, Thanks! :)*

this is getting weirder and weirder...

when I went to turn on debug in pop-up mode and then also in inline mode, and clicked submit, I get a blank page. So basically I can't use debug at all anymore...

aaarrrggh. This is so weird and random, it just started being all weird, and I don't know why...
