Question re: CBB category/subcat counts

Okay, here's the scoop...

I am running CBB 1.13 on 2.0.13.1 site. I have 5 major categories (one for each group on the site), and within each major category, I have forums and subforums.

The first problem is that the top level forums don't count any of the posts in the subforums. So when a user logs in and heads to the discussion forums, they see 0s in the 'Topics' & 'Posts' columns -- so they assume there are no posts within that particular forum.

The second problem is that people are posting to the top level forums, instead of drilling down into the subforums. Is there a trick I can use to stop people from posting in the top level forums?

Fingers crossed that I've explained this well enough

Thanks in advance,

Kristine

My only suggestions would be to move the individual posts to another forum (which I dont think is possible yet?) or to restrict posting permissions - so people can read only some forums but post in others.
