php debug issues?

I have had a phpnuke site for about 2 years. I wanted a second site and a friend recommended Xoops. I checked out the site, liked what I seen (very simple) and downloaded it. I already had the fresh domain ready to go.

The set up of the database and the installation of XOOPS went great.

I found a nice theme to go with the site, did a little editing (pain in the butt) to set it up exactly as I wanted. Now I had 3 things left to do.

1. I have mylinks as the home page, I wanted to remove the web links logo and category section so under the header the mylink loop starts.
2. I wanted to remove the options in the comments form. I want users to only be able to leave plain black text comments.
3. I wanted to get a gallery for pictures so I downloaded xoopsgallery.

I installed the gallery, I was having some problems with getting pictures to display. I went to their FAQ’s followed the steps to fix it. Ran into sever issues (apache shut down) I got these resolved and decided to put the gallery on hold and get the main page of my site ready to open to public. At this point I started working on editing mylinks. I made a back up of everything made changes over and over and nothing ever showed up changed. So I backed up the database and reinstalled XOOPS with the updated html and php files to remove the items I didn’t want under mylinks. After I installed XOOPS and got the database replaced with the back up file I could get to the login for the main page and the admin menu but everything else gave me the famous “blank page” From here I went to the XOOPS FAQ’s and went through the steps for php debug. I did everything, I mean EVERYTHING on that page it said to do. I still got a blank page so I just reuploaded every file in XOOPS except the install folder and the mainfile.php. All this time I wasn’t even looking at my nukesite. I open it today and I have about 50,000 php errors I never had before. I also got a list of errors for the XOOPS site but could not reach the admin page anymore. So I started putting everything back the way is was in the php.ini file, anything else I changed I put back exactly like it was before I started reading the “blank page” help guide. Now I get this error on the XOOPS site:

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: xoopssecurity in /home/*****/www/include/common.php on line 32

And these errors on the nukesite:

Notice: Undefined variable: forum_admin in /home/******/www/mainfile.php on line 2

Notice: Undefined variable: inside_mod in /home/******/www/mainfile.php on line 4

Notice: Undefined variable: forum_admin in /home/******/www/includes/sentinel.php on line 37

Notice: Undefined variable: inside_mod in /home/******/www/includes/sentinel.php on line 41

Notice: Undefined variable: inside_mod in /home/*******/www/db/db.php on line 44

Notice: Undefined variable: dbtype in /home/*******/www/db/db.php on line 50

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: sql_db in /home/******/www/db/db.php on line 86

*’s = directory for the domain of each site.

What have I done wrong? Should I just delete everything and start over on XOOPS after 100+ hours of work? What can I do to get the nukesite back up that never had an error before I started all this?

I found that xoopssecurity.php was blank, uploaded the file again and got a long list of errors:

you may want to try changing your FTP client to upload 1 file at a time (as opposed to multiple) and overwriting ALL of the install...(once you get back into XOOPS update the system module first thing.)
Better yet if you know how to unzip on the server that will eliminate the potential for ftp transfer issues.

I cant get into the admin menu, because I have no way to log in, can I unzip on webmin's file manager? I usualy use AceFTP. Ace does upload 1 file at a time and I had set it to overwrite all files when I uploaded XOOPS the second time.

well not alot left then... I don't know about webmin...

though it appears that you have some partial files there...

How did you go aout editing the mylinks, etc... did you clone the default templates and edit those? (what files did you edit?)

First I edited myheader.php to match my theme, basicly changed colors and used my logo inplace of the XOOPS logo

next I was going to start on removing the logo and cat. sections. I am no programmer so of course I have a back up for any files I mess with. I removed the folowing lines from mylinks_index.html

le="color: #000000"><?php <p align="center"> <a href="<{$xoops_url}>/modules/mylinks/index.php"><img src="<{$xoops_url}>/modules/mylinks/images/logo.gif" alt="" /></a> </p> <br /><br /><br /> <{if count($categories) gt 0}> <hr /> <table border='0' cellspacing='5' cellpadding='0' align="center"> <tr> <!-- Start category loop --> <{foreach item=category from=$categories}> <td valign="top"> <{if $category.image != ""}> <a href="<{$xoops_url}>/modules/mylinks/viewcat.php?cid=<{$category.id}>"><img src="<{$category.image}>" height="50" border="0" alt="" /></a> <{/if}> </td> <td valign="top" width="40%"><a href="<{$xoops_url}>/modules/mylinks/viewcat.php?cid=<{$category.id}>"><b><{$category.title}></b></a>&nbsp;(<{$category.totallink}>)<br /><{$category.subcategories}></td> <{if $category.count is div by 3}> </tr><tr> <{/if}> <{/foreach}> <!-- End category loop --> </tr> </table> <br /><br />

Will this be enough to remove the logo and category listings?

Some how my config file on my other site got blanked out as well, I replaced it and added error_reporting(0); to the mainfile.php, this cleaned that problem up, as far as the site running Xoops, I am working on re-reinstalling it. Working with a direcway satellite so this will take a while. I will report back if I get it going or still have issues.

Can anyone answer my last reply? If I remove the selected coed will that remove the logo and category sections from mylinks in the home page or is there more to remove?

It's tough to help you without more information... check this if you would like to get more, or quicker responses.

I don't know if you can log in yet or not, but it seems like you may be making things more difficult than necessary for yourself.

I strongly suggest you do a normal install without any funkified (altered) files. (just put your changed files in a folder for safe keeping).

Once you have a Functional, Normal install....

Clone the default template set and ****** only make your changes to the templates*******

... there are a number of reasons to do it this way as opposed to how it appears you are trying to make changes. Read more about templates by doing a search.

removing the code you posted will remove the logo and cat., but again, use the template system in order to do it.

Thats what I am doing now, I am deleting everything from my root and starting over with a fresh install.

I will work on changes once I have the site back up and running again. Thanks for the info and i will look into templates more before I start making changes and try to get this done the "right" way this time :)

FYI, I found I can upload and extract zip and tar files with the file manager in webmin. This will save hours in upload times and cut down on packets lost.

The bad part is, it wont delete directorys that are not emepty, so back to AceFTP to delete files 1 at a time :(

ok the site is back up and running, exacly as it was before I started any editing,

the file I was taking about removing the code from is:

/modules/mylinks/templates/mylinks_index.html

Is this what you mean by editing the templates? If so thats what I did before, and just tried again but did not remove the logo or cat. listings.

Do I need to change something or update something for the changes to show?
