I have just FINALLY installed XOOPS on my works pc to use as testing. Everything ran perfectly after installing WMServer Tools 3.2.

BUT

On getting to the final page and entering a admin account, I get the following:

Quote:
This page cannot be displayed due to an internal error.

If you are the administrator of this site, please visit the XOOPS Troubleshooting Page for assistance.

Helpful infomation you should provide while asking for assistance:

Error [Xoops]: Unable to connect to database in file class/database/databasefactory.php line 34

I know what the issue is... it is with WMServer Tool 3.2. The MySQL service will not start AT ALL. Comes up with Windows Error 1053.. I have searched on the net and found that a netframework fix should solve the problem but installed this and still the MySQL service will not start... anyone else had issues like this.. if so any fix?>

Re: Local install

I thought you were gonna go with WAMP? It's really one of the easiest 'php MySQL apache' packages out there.

Personally I found WMServer easier to use... but obviously has an issue

The fat that WMServer created everything I needed automatically was the one that sold it but retrying Wamp now to see how I go

Re: Local install

WAMP cetainly does it all automatically and it creates a little menu on your task bar near the clock to access all the php, apache, MySQL controls. I'm sorry I've never used WMServer.

I install wamp, task bar icon is there showing all services running but has it automatically setup a database for me!?

Re: Local install

Nope (I think), go to the task bar and open phpmyadmin, from there you will see on the main page that it says Create new database, stick a name in the box and click create. You then have the name of the database (click on it on teh left hand dropdown menu), username and pass can be set, I think it's on the last tab (operations) not sure off the top of my head.

phpmyadmin is your friend. If you want to manage websites, I really suggest learing as much about it as possible, just play around with it, if you don't know what something does google it. It won't be long before you can use the tool without thinking, just like riding a bike .

Think this is proving my point of WMServer being easier for a novice. Apologies if I sound off hand but for a novice WAMP is not the easiest thing to use. I have done the above but still not feeling confident, therefore I am leaving this and work will have to find something else to use
