Where do I ftp a file to so I can link to it

Hi all
I have been busy creating docs and uploading attached files in wf section and came across the problem of a file too big to upload. I tried all i could think of to reduce the file size - currently pdf just under 5 mb.

After searching I see there are several solutions:
1. contact the host and have them make a change to max file size
2. Change php.ini - I am clueless with this one
3. I could ftp the file and then make a link to it. This sounds like my cup of tea - but the Problem is I don't know which folder to ftp the file to or what chmod it needs to be. Can you help?

TIA
Jenny

I'm not familiar with wf section, so I don't know where it stores files.

You could use the module to upload a small file as a "proxy", and look at the folders via FTP to figure out where the file was placed.

Then use FTP to overwrite the proxy with the real file, retaining the filename and permissions assigned by wf section.
