...if another module is installed?

Example: in MyModule's admin interface, how can i check if MyOldModule is installed?

All installed modules are listed in the upper table on the page, any not installed modules are listed in the lower table on the page.

I guess you mean a check done from the modules programcode since you posted in module hacks?

Have a look into other modules that have update features.
Example wf-downloads 2.05 (wfdownloads/update.php)
