(Moving this from an old thread because I drifted away from the orginal subject.)

I have finally succeded upgrading my XOOPS site frpm 2.0.7.x step by step to 2.2. There are still a few problems though:

1. Redirection don't work. One have to click the link to continue to the site when logging in and so on.

2. Modules -> Administration works, but the general admin menu disappers. The theme does not seem to work.

3. Blocks: There are a few blocks missing, especially Newbb blocks like Recent posts.

4. The News module does not show at all! I can use Modules -> News in the Admin section, but the news page on my site is completely blank.

I am happy that I got this faar but it would be great if someone have any suggestions how to fix these flaws.

5. No PM/message box (invisible textlink in uder menu, clickable, but leading to a non existting page).

Please, help me...

The users are leaving my site. And I am thinking of going back to 2.0.7.3 and Newbb 1 since I can not get 2.2.3 up running properly, even though I have been working on this update constantly for four days now... And after looking around in the forum, I don't seem to be alone with having trouble updating.

Is there anything I can do or try before I give up on Xoops? I have repaired my DB, reloaded and updated the system module a couple of times, surfing around XOOPS FAQ and support forums for hours.

At the bottom of the admin page it says XOOPS 2.0 even though I upgraded from 2.0.13 to 2.2.3. Is that correct? The system module is v. 2.13.

No, you are not alone in the universe...lol
Sometimes it just takes a few days for someone who has that kind of knowledge to help - there is lots going on, and I know they are busy trying to get things underway...
But that's not your issue.
I'm far from expert, but I might be able to help.
I upgraded a few sites, and managed to get it right somehow!
If you know that you followed the upgrade instructions TO THE LETTER, then try checking these things:
1. Make sure that the files on your server are CHMODed properly. (THAT was a huge issue with me and one host I used - they had a script running that changed my permissions "for my own good"!)
2. In the modules admin area, UPDATE all the modules.
3. In the Preferences admin area, make sure that your "Update module template .html files from themes/your theme/templates directory" is checked "yes".
4. In the Blocks, make sure all your pages are showing where you want them - make sure they are set to "visible".
5. Check User Permissions! I found that one out the hard way... a lot of my modules needed to be manually set for anon users and registered users... make sure each is set exactly right.

A lot of your php errors seem to be variable referances which I think is a PHP5 issue and shouldn't effect the way your site works. I think the main problem is that you are using a 2.0.X theme which will not work with 2.2.X Have you tried the default 2.2.X theme? There seems to be a lot going on, but I would start with a new theme and see if it clears up any of your problems.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Upgrades:
I have upgraded step by step from 2.0.7.13 to 2.2.3. The serious problems as described showed up when going to 2.2.3. I noticed that the first step of the upgrade script (2.0.1.13 to 2.2.3a-Final), when checking, resulted in errors (red) but the upgrade itself was successful according to the upgrade script.

Permissions:
Yes I believe I got it right. 777 on cache, templates_c and uploads.

Modules:
Have been updated. Several times in pure desperation. Blocks and permissions for my modules seem to be fine since most modules work.

Themes: I am now using my own version of Karate Redux. I tried the XOOPS 2.2 default theme and cleared templates, but it did'nt solve any of my problems.

The serious problem are really, as I understand, connected to the system module and XOOPS core (even though I do not understand the php debug error codes). I have fixed som problems on my own, like the ones with CBB and blocks. What remains now and which is really vital for me and my users are:

1. The Inbox does not show up in the user menu. This is really bad cause the PM function is used very frequently by my users.

2. Parts of the admin section looks bad, especially the Module --> Administration (it seems to be possible to update modules but the theme is messed up) and News (v. 1.44), where I can edit topics but not save my changes (just shows a blank page).

3. Automatic reload does'nt work at all which is pretty frustration, having to click forward manually. This seems to be a common problem?

4. The date format in CBB: Dates shows like _2006EthCETERTueAM2006. But I guess that is a CBB problem and not cauesed by XOOPS 2.2.3.

I am most greatful for any help I can get to solve this! I don't want to go back to 2.0.7.13 but at least it was doing its job.

I managed to fix the reload problem: Bluenova was right, it had to do with my theme (karate_redux).

So now the final(?) serious problem is the missing Inbox. Every time I update a module it says "No Profile fields found". Could that be connected to the Inbox-problem?
