as the admin I can log in but there is no user menu on the index page. When I type in the site url for the admin cp I get that dreaded message - "Sorry, you do not have the permission to access this area"

I'm lost any suggestions?

sounds like you removed yourself from the admin group.... or someone did it for you. if you have a memberlist. check to be sure that no one else has webmaster rights.

On a side note. someone had a very similar problem the other day, and i could have sworn that there was a recovery for it. Like a built in feature. /admin/recovery.php or something... idk maybe i was dreaming.

I don't allow users to register on the site. I am the only user and I checked the database and my uid is 1. It also says I have a rank of 7 and a level of 5.

Sorry I'm using 2.13 and I can't find anything like /admin/recovery.php

check your groups_users_link database and make sure uid 1 is set to group id 1

groups_users_link is set correctly........

Even if I can't get to the admin menu I should be able to see the user menu once I login. None of this makes any sense - I even changed the database to allow registration and registered and still no user menu on the index page. I am about to switch themes to see if maybe that's the problem.

I replace all the system module files and the login seems to be working. Since I don't know which file caused this problem (I uploaded them one at a time, update the system each time)I can't say that I've resolved this issue entirely.

If you can, check in Admin>System>Groups that the webmaster has administrative priviledges for all the modules listed.
