Do you get any more information with php debuginfo switched on?
Since you are using newbb2:
When you upgraded did you upload the newbb folder that came with the update?
If so that is your problem because those files are for newbb1. In that case just overwrite your current newbb files again with those from the original newbb2 module you were using and everything should work again.
(eventually updating the module in 'system admin - modules')
