I have a site with:
_private
vti_bin
vti_cnf
vti_log
vti_pvt
vti_txt

Do I need these for anything? I am using XOOPS 2.0.10

Those are microsoft frontpage extension folders. So for XOOPS you will not need them if you do not work with frontpage.
