Is there any hack that allows anonymous users to input their own nick? rather than appear as "Guest" when they posted a comment?

Yea yea. this would be very useful.

Some website like a Travel site where registration is not really used. Would be nice if the users can just drop by enter their own nick and email address. That would be nice.

Anyone anyone? XOOPS coders?

i doubt the hacks i done for userinfo etc will hold anything for doing this.

for guests to be able to enter their own name would mean that name has then got to have a unique id specific to the post. maybe could be possible to add a temp table which stores the post_id and the entered for that post if guest, then somehow link it to the author_id etc (eg. if guest then fetch poster name where post_id = xxx, else use username = guest ) bit of a crude example, or maybe an 'if' statement in the template to retrieve a smarty value assigned to it.. but as for coding it i have no idea, i'll see if i can have a play with it somehow but i don't think my php knowledge will stretch that far..

ah thanks for the reply and input.

The only module i found has this function is wordpress.
the rest of the modules does not have this function. not even newbb.

All unregistered users who made the post will appear as the same nick config in the admin preference. So i think that is sort of a drawback.

I would try to hack if only i know php and sql. Hopefully someone is able to contribute to this. It would be a additional useful hack.

hmmm, i thought cbb had it too, i was gonna have a look at that, i only briefly had a look at cbb so i not familiar with it's settings.. but if wordpress has it, i could take a look and see if i can figure out something from that. i'm not a coder either, my php knowledge is abt 1 out of 10 lol but sometimes if it's coded well some of it can be quite easy to follow even if you don't know the rest.
