MyPHPadmin

I have down loded the "MyPHPadmin" sw but it not in a ZIP format it's in a .tar format.

How do I open and install this?

Or is there a ZIP vision?

Re: MyPHPadmin

winzip, winrar, or 7-zip should be able to open tar files. I presume you are on a windows platform, if you are on a mac, I'm not sure what file archiving utilities are available.

The file is "xoops2-mod_phpmyadmin_260b3.tar.bz2" and winzip dose not open it !!!!

Re: MyPHPadmin

well - that's not a tar file then. Either way, winrar (see my first reply) will open it, I just tested it.

That's a bzip2-compressed .tar file. WinZip doesn't support that.

If you're looking for the standalone phpMyAdmin script, rather than the phpMyAdmin XOOPS module, it's available at http://phpmyadmin.net/ as .zip, .tar.gz and .tar.bz2. WinZip supports the first two types.

If you're stuck with a .tar.bz2 file, and don't want to install something like WinRar, you can "un-bzip" it with bzip2, available from http://www.bzip.org/

Hi,

If I download and install "WinRar" on my PC (where can I get this from) I will then beable to open the "xoops2-mod_phpmyadmin_260b3.tar.bz2" YES?

Then I can upload and install the module in the normal way?

Google is your friend. This was the first link listed when I searched for the term "WinRAR". http://www.rarlab.com/

Personally, I use Power Archiver (http://www.powerarchiver.com/) on my Windows box. I know for sure it hanles bz2 files.

Also, I don't recommend that you use the phpMyAdmin modules for XOOPS. The versions of phpMyAdmin used with them are not current. I've personally had security issues using them. You are much better off to use the most recent, standalone version of phpMyAdmin, available @ http://www.phpmyadmin.net/

Hi,
Thank you, for the tip. I have taken your advise and I'm downloading it as a stand alone.

I will let you know how I get on and if I have any problems.

Thanks again.

The installation instructions are in the file Documentation.html in its top-level directory.

Basically it's just a matter of extracting it into a directory and editing its configuration file config.inc.php. But the instructions discuss some security issues of which you should be aware.
