I don't think I have the "blank screen issue", however I apologise if it is. You can see the problem at http://www.nzrt4.org.nz

Before you tell me to read the FAQs, I have tried everything on on XOOPS for dummies http://www.macambridge.com/dummies/trouble.htm and everything on XOOPS Faq https://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=80

I have installed XOOPS 2.0.9.2 on a Windows XP machine which was running Visnetic Website, PHP 4.3.10 and MySQL 4.0.17

Everything installs fine, but when I go to view the website (in Fire Fox 1.0) I get the XOOPS blue banner, a footer and a small line that shows the boundary for the menu, but that's it, no menu.

If I view with IE I get the same but also see the animated white logo in the banner area.

I reinstalled XOOPS but got the same thing. I reinstalled PHP, and no luck so installed Roxen web server with no joy either.

So I have just installed Apache 2.0.52 with the PHP 4.3.10 and MySQL 4.0.17 and guess what. its the same.

I can login using user.php and then access the admin console via admin.php. I have turned on the PHP Debug info yet it shows no error. PHP debug info is on as well, so is the global setting.

I would really love to give XOOPS a try, but I need help.

Below is my Apache 2.0.52 logs in case they can help, but everything returns a 200 code. Is /include/xoops.js the menu?

try to go here: http://www.nzrt4.org.nz/admin.php and goto: system/blocks and activate some blocks, I don't know how but is seems none off the blocks are selected for display.

if you're not logged in, try this first: http://www.nzrt4.org.nz/user.php

Thanks for your reply....

I went to blocks but there are none to activate. In the area where I guess it lists the current blocks (like on the screenshot at http://www.macambridge.com/dummies/blocks.htm), there is nothing. If i change to show for Webmaster, Registered, Anonyous or #Unassigned I still get no blocks listed.

I checked permissions for Anonymous users and they have access to all blocks. I checked this under Goups > Anonymous and ensured they were all ticked, which they were. Menu and Login do appear in the list along with many others.

I set the theme (Default) to update after changes, deleted contents of templates_c and the cache as well as flushed my browser cache.

I have even tried changing the Theme from Default to phpkaok and x2t.

Still nothing on the site, and nothing under Blocks in admin panel. Any further ideas?

[edit]
I have just downloaded XOOPS again and unzipped the Modules directory and replaced the files in installed version in case of a bad download, but it didn'help :(
[end]

I'm totally blank on this one. The system module blocks should ALWAYS be displayed. So far you've taken every step I can possibly think of right now. Maybe a dev can shed some new light on this situation, it's very strange. I wish I could be a bit more helpfull.

From what you've written it sounds like the 'XOOPS_ROOT_PATH' setting in your mainfile.php file is not set correctly, or the permissions are not correct. If the installation went through ok, I'd be tipping the first suggestion. Check that the paths specified in your mainfile.php file are all correct, and then delete everything in your cache and template_c directories.

Thanks for the suggestion however checked it and it's already correct, the path below is the path to where all the files and subdirctorys were put when extracted from the HTML dirctory in the zip file, eg index.php and mainfile.php are in this directory

define('XOOPS_ROOT_PATH', 'D:/wwwroot/nzrt4');

The only other refernces to XOOPS_ROOT_PATH in the mainfile.php are:
=============================================================
if ( strcasecmp( substr($xoopsScriptPath, 0, strlen(XOOPS_ROOT_PATH)), str_replace( DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR, '/', XOOPS_ROOT_PATH)) ) {
exit("XOOPS path check: Script is not inside XOOPS_ROOT_PATH and cannot run.");
}
=============================================================

and

=============================================================
is if (!isset($xoopsOption['nocommon']) && XOOPS_ROOT_PATH != '') {
include XOOPS_ROOT_PATH."/include/common.php";
}
=============================================================

Any other ideas?

Only other mainfile.php related item might be to double check you XOOPS_URL value. Also double check that your templates_c, cache and uploads directories are writable by the server.

The XOOPS_URL is correct

define('XOOPS_URL', 'http://www.nzrt4.org.nz');

The templates_c, cache and uploads directories are writable.

To check I cleared the cache directory and when I login as admin via admin.php scritp the adminmenu.php file gets written

The templates_c has a filed called %%20^200^200DC337%%theme.html.php writen when I go the http://www.nzrt4.org.nz

below is the content of the %%20^200^200DC337%%theme.html.php file if that helps?

I checked the file D:\wwwroot\nzrt4\themes\default\theme_blockleft.html

It only contains the following two lines, should it have some refence to a menu or navigation?

<{$block.title}>
<{$block.content}>
