How do i insert this piece of code into theme.html?

When i use <{ MY CODE }> - nothing happens. Please help a newbie

Enclose in;

<{php}>code goes here<{/php}>

Why use <{php}>?
It's possible with simple Smarty code.

<{if $SCRIPT_NAME=="/modules/news/index.php"}>
    <img src="index_25_h.gif" />
<{else}>
    <img src="index_25.gif" />
<{/if}>
