How to make a banner

I have banners module, but I don't have a clue how to make a banner and get it on my site. Is there an easy tutorial for dummies on this, or can someone explain in English that I could understand?

First open up your theme folder and edit theme.html. Insert <{$xoops_banner}> where you want your banners to show up. Upload that file to the theme folder. Go into admin/system/banners and put the url where the banner points to and the banenr url. Select add. Go to your homepage and you should see your banner if you put it in an alright spot

Do you mean how to create an actual banner or how to place and situate the banner on your site?
