Hi everyone, I'm the new webmaster at a site that's running PHPNuke 5.0, which I've now decided to switch to XOOPS instead of upgrading to PHPNuke 7. But looking at the server info, its running very outdated versions of PHP and mySQL, and since I do not currently have a voice in changing hosts, I was wondering if XOOPS 2.0.7.3 will work on that server?

The Server is running mySQL 3.23.4-alpha, the rest of the info can be found in the image attached below:

Thanks.

MySQL 3.23.4-alpha
PHP 4.0.4pl1
Apache 1.3.19

I wouldn't expect XOOPS 2.0.7.3 to run properly on that platform. XOOPS requires PHP >= 4.1.0, although some parts of XOOPS may work with PHP < 4.1.0.

Is there another XOOPS version in the 2.x.x series that will work on this smoothly?

Thanks.

The server was upgraded to PHP 4.3.9 two days ago, but the mySQL Database is still at the same old version (3.23.4-alpha). I tried installing XOOPS 2.7.3 and the installtion went fine, but the menus on the left wouldn't show and I wasn't able to login as admin or login/register as any other user. The Operating System of the server is: SunOS 5.8, so I'm wondering if you could help me install it, or if there is a version of XOOPS available that is known to install and work smoothly on that server with those version of software?

Thanks.

Is there any reason why you can't upgrade MySQL to a new version? Reason I ask as there have been MANY security updates incorporated into XOOPS as since the early 2.x days, and using anything but the latest stable version is going to leave yourself open to some vunrabilities. You will also find that support is harder to come by when using older versions.

The Reason is cause its the site of my school's newspaper and the hosting and domain are provided by someone for free, so I cannot tell him what to do and what not to do, I have to be the one to adapt.

As far as installtino goes XOOPS 2.0.7.3 installed just fine, but wouldn't work afterwards.

Not sure if it would help, but, you may want to check MySQL write permission to temp directory.
