Is there any documentation on how to begin to port an existing module from nuke series or other php/mysql CMS into xoops?

I very new to XOOPS but an old timer in php/mysql sites.

Welcome to the world of XOOPS. Here are some links pertaining to XOOPS module development that you should find helpful:

XOOPS Module Development Guide - (about halfway down the page) introduction to writing modules in XOOPS, explains the basics, as well as some of the features implemented in the core that can be used in your module.
XOOPS Module Development Website - A resource site for XOOPS module developers. Module development tools (Project Management, CVS, bug tracking, Q&A Forums, Module Development Wiki)
XOOPS API Documentation - Programmer's reference for classes defined by the XOOPS core.
