How to control the order of the displaying of news?

I desire to have one central text at the top of the main page. That would be some sort of an intro to the site. How do i make it stick and not get pushed down by news and other stuff. And in general I can't figure out how the ordering of display in the central area is controled. Thanks for any insight!

You can post from 5 (base) news articles in the main page. For the order go to admin->news->preferences and choose the method of posting news.

Thanks. Is there a way to directly specifiy by hand how do I want to order them?
