See if you have a default value set for the target and source
fields in fields administration.

yes i do. English for the Source language and Spanish for the Target language fields.

it turned our that one of the custom fields i create can be searched (those are select, yes/no etc.). I can see them in the search form but the result is 0 users found. i did even try to write smth like this http://www.freelancersupport.com/modules/profile/search.php?source_language=English&op=results in the url box but same result. how do i get it working again?

since the issue seems to be too complecated im trying to provide more info on this cos I believe there's nothing can't be solved. so i noticed that custom fileds search does work only if you specify at least something in the 'Username'. So if I want to search users by the aforesaid 'Source language' I have to choose the 'Source language' I want and at least one letter of the 'Username' it would start with. it doesn't make thigns clear for me maybe sb knows what's going on.
