i wouldn't say it's the best theme i've seen..

there are plenty of XOOPS themes out there that look as good if not better..

if you're not happy with what's available.. then the solution is to make 1 yourself!!

it really isn't all that hard to design a theme.. all you need is an imagination, some html, CSS knowledge (and you don't need to be an expert at html or css either) just the knowledge of how to read!! sum ability to use your own imagination is a good idea.. a little experience of simply using a search engine and browsing around and the willingness to actually do it yourself.

a simple search in google for XOOPS themes throws up hundreds and thousands of pages to look through..

Can anyone tell me how does http://www.gaining-mass.com/ managed to split various categories of news into multiple sections and each sections then just showing the news headline there. It this because of template only or the news module has this feature also???

The theme of this site is very good:
http://www.radioprogresso.com.br/

My test site (I used some different graphics):
http://xoops.lucastds.net

With knowledge and creativity you can do any style of layout for Xoops.

Hello to everybody,

Herko is right: "Personally I don't think that XOOPS itself is limiting the creative use of themes" .

XOOPS has no limit, all is possible. You may change the modules, the templates and last but not least the themes. There is no problem to create a new theme if you have some knowledge (I say some ...) in html and less in php. We have made some new (or changed old) themes in a XOOPS workshop "su cara nueva para su sitio" (your new face for your site).

Here are some results: (We will publish the themes in some weeks - or so -)

Only problem with php-nuke is the text size and all the people moaning that it bodges up

where as in XOOPS it adjusts with the text sizing depending what theme your using

I'm a little late to this thread, but to answer your question about the news on my gaining-mass.com site; I simply built a custom block and block template to display the news info the way I wanted. I did the same for most of the site. I didn't like the way the block (and their templates) made most sites look the same, so I simply built new blocks (and templates) to get the result I desired.
