Hi guys,

for my website, i have set the left and right colum to width 160. However, when i go into the forums and view a thread which has a picture, the left-colum will shrink and just be wide enough to accomodate the words under the section. Anyone knows what's wrong with my theme or how i can fix this?

many thanks in advance.

i thinks this is known issue.. me also have the same problem when using newbb. there's a hack somewhere here.. but i think it's for newbb 1.0. and i had test before, but it doesn't work perfectly.

So there is no fix to this? And the bar will always shrink if there are pictures in the forumS?

The only way this can be solved is to implement a fixed max width for images....

I have already made NewBB resize to thumbnail if UPLOADED picture is bigger than 480x480. HOWEVER, this rule isn't abided to if the picture is LINKED.

which means Resized Image still shows 1024x768 or whatever if it is linked. So is there really NO solution to this?

TBH - only way I can suggest otherwise is to basically tell posters that the max size they can use is xxx pixels wide - and to remove links that are bigger than this until they re-scale them.....

Re: Help! Shrinking Side Table!

This is easy to fix...... just place a 1x1 pixel transparent gif in the left and right columns of your theme file... then set the width of the 1pixel gif to 160 pixels.... this will stop the left and right columns from being "compressed"

ie:

<img src="<{$xoops_imageurl}>1px.gif" width="160px" height="1px" alt="" />

you may need to allow for padding on the left and right columns, so if you have 5px padding, then image width would be 150pixels

edited code

Heh i'll probably do that or just leave it. Btw do you have any idea what is causing it?

Would be sweet if someone could come up with something to solve this problem..

I guess other than this my site is more or less completed hehe.

Re: Help! Shrinking Side Table!

The columns will always be compressed if content elsewhere tries to stretch the page outside of its margins.. ie:browser window.. its not really an error. To stop a table being compressed like that, you need something in it that is as wide as the column and cant be broken to next line. thats where an "invisible" image is good
