G'day all. I have a problem for the guru's.

I have been trying to log on to my site, and get the error msg "Cannot find server or DNS Error".

There appears to be no problem with my hosting service, and i can access other parts of the site such as the admin and modules section. To my knowledge, I had changed nothing on the site to cause this.

I have tried uploading a new copy of index.php to the site, and also a new copy of index to the include folder.

I am running 2.0.5.2

Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

can you switch on debug in general preferences and post the results?

What module have you set up as default launch, if any. I tried to access news, but I got an "access denied" message.

G'day Jackj. Have switched on debug mode to php. Cannot see any errors as the home page does not load.

After further investigation, it appears as though all pages will load, except for the index.php page.

Very frustrating.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Cheers

When trying to load the page, it just sits there saying opening page http://www.giles.id.au/index.php until it times out, yet all other pages load as they should.

Are you sure your host hasn't changed anything? I remember somebody once saying their host had disallowed all but index.html files... maybe you could make a temporary index.html file to try out that theory.

Have already asked the question, and been told that nothing has been changed on their part.

index.html works fine. further to that, another site hosted by the same provider, and using XOOPS is working fine.

Please keep the ideas coming.

Cheers

You say other files like admin.php and edituser.php work, correct?

If so, try renaming your current index.php to indexold.php.

Then, copy admin.php (or some other file from the root that you like) to become index.php.

Then see if this "fake" index.php will load.
Also, see if indexold.php will load.

That should give some clues.

Thanks Sunsnapper.

Renaming admin to index worked. The page loaded correctly. Then trying the old index file that I renamed failed as it has been doing.

What files are called by the index.php file? could 1 of those be corrupt?
If I need to replace these core files, which ones should i replace?

Ok all, i've found the problem. Just dont know what caused it. I decidec to start deactivating all the module on the chance that one of those was causing the problem. As it turned out, the Headlines module, when activated, causes the index.php not to load. Don't ask me why...........

As soon as it is deactivated, all is good. It had been working happily until yesterday. Any suggestions apart from deleting the module and reloading it??

Cheers

I had the same problem. After reviewing your post here, I vaguely recalled an instruction about updating each of the modules from the administration screen after performing the XOOPS update.

I tried that, as opposed to deactivating the module in question (the Headlines module), and everything worked out peachy.

I'm glad you got it working as well.
