OK, so SqMail installes, but do not show up in the admin area, and when clicking from the site menu on "SqMail" a blank page appears.

WebMailFX works flawlessly except for the problems with swedish characters and when forwarding a message containing HTML the forwarded message just appears as "weird" HTML syntax. To bad really, since it seems to work fine otherwise on new XOOPS 2.3

Hi,

I tried SqMail and Tropical Mail earlier this year and none of them worked. As I remember one of them didn't install properly and the other just turned up errors.

WebMailFX actually works except for the poccational problem with swedish character sets (åäö and the like). Usually this problem only appears in incoming subject lines containing such letters. Maybe a small problem that can be solved?

I'll try it out on my new 2.3 XOOPS site as well and will get back to you with answers.

I've raised this topic before and am still hoping for someone to pick it up. There are a couple old pop3-e-mail-modules in the repository wich should allow users to access web-mail through the XOOPS site. Sadly enought they do not work. Is anyone else interested in this - or even better - interested in creating a new working module?

RedSlider> Encyclopedia was a great idea. I'm using it for terminology but this might be another useful area for the plugin!

Davidless> If you can make it work for a research library it would be useful for me to! :) Please keep me posted!

Could be something to start with. I already use this for my site and was thinking of altering it a bit for theese purposes. If nothing else...

My company has a library of reference-books that my personel can loan. I use XOOPS for my company intranet and would really like a Library module to showcase books. Wishlist starting with the most wanted features:

- Create a listning for users with Title, Author, Publisher, Short description, Number of copies in library, and number of copies still available (not on loan)
- Possibility for coverpic
- "Librarian" can manage loans, edit duedate and user who made the loan.
- Posibility for user to register interest to loan with a simple click.
- Posibility for cues on popular items
- Users can see which books they currently have at home
- Auto-mail to user when book is available.
- Auto reminder with intervals or when duedate is arriving.
- Users can add books to a "wishlist" to buy
- Extra function: statistics over loans/book or user.

Anyone else interested?

I have tried Tropical, SqMail and WebMailFX. The latter is the only one currently working as it should, but doesn't support anything but english standard characters (which is a problem for me and my Swedish site). None of these three are currently (since 2006) supported or maintained.

Is there anyone out there willing to create a new module for this, or that know of another module that works and is maintained? I'm running a company intranet and would like to connect the employes webmail to the site.

Hoping and wishing!
/Klas

So it's not just me, then!

I hope this gets fixed soon! If it is a utf8-problem, could I set the charset to latin1.swedish in my mySQL database, perhaps. Could be worth a try!

When I try using swedish characters in XOOPS 2.3, all the text from the first odd charactar and forward disappears.

I installed XOOPS 2.3 and set the charset to utf8 (my SQL database runs utf8 and collation utf8_unicode_ci). The installation wont let me set collation to "utf8_unicode_ci" but nags me with something like "Default character set is not set for XOOPS database". So I leave the collation-field blank and continue with the installation.

Now, when I enter swedish characters Å, Ä, Ö (ä etc.) that database string only saves the text until the first "weird" character... anything else is missing. This is independent of module, tried news, cjay content etc.

Any solutions?

Thank you!

I kind of guessed this was the case, but I couldn't find it in the documentation. Probably it was just I that didn't read all of it. I couldn't make a qualified guess to what the link would be.

Thanks for the in-dept answer!
